The Calabar Carnival is one of Africa’s largest cultural festivals. Colloquially known as Africa’s biggest street party, the Calabar Carnival takes place on the 26th and the 27th of December. It is the main highlight of the 32-day Calabar Festival, which runs from 30th of November to January 1st.

The Calabar festival is a major celebration of local culture, dance and music. It also includes music from local and international artists as well as promoting a rich culture and heritage. 

The Calabar Festival is a major hit with international and local tourists alike. Tourists can expect to see so much colour, sound and it is truly a spectacular sight, unrivalled anywhere else.

The Calabar Carnival is Africa’s largest cultural festival. More than 50,000 costumed participants take part with 2 million spectators enjoying the festivities.

Five competing and ten non-competing bands also feature in this fun Carnival.

The Carnival finishes at the UJ Esurene Stadium where you will find the adjudication point for the Band of the Year.
